Our children need your help now more than ever.
Now more than ever we need your help.
These are extremely difficult and uncertain times and our families face more hardship now than ever before.
Here at The Sunshine Fund, we provide equipment to children with a variety of needs and abilities as well as a whole host of medical conditions. We support babies, children and young adults up until their 19th birthday by funding equipment such as specialist beds, wheelchairs, trikes, IT and sensory equipment that is not available through the NHS, local authorities or any other sources. We receive no government funding and so we rely solely on the support and generosity of local organisations and individuals to help us raise enough money to support these families that so desperately need our help.
The North-East has some of the highest recorded number of children living with disabilities, and the demand for our support continues to increase. Our children are currently at a great risk of contracting coronavirus.
Some of the children we support are immunosuppressed meaning they don’t have the ability to fight infection effectively. Some have severe respiratory conditions and breathing difficulties, many with tracheostomies that are at a high risk of infection. Our children may have neuro conditions which leaves them susceptible to further illness and Covid 19 poses an even greater risk than we ever knew. Our children are some of the most vulnerable in society in right now. And we need you to help them.
Unfortunately, in these uncertain times we are unable to continue with our usual events and community fundraising initiatives. We have postponed our annual Sunshine Run, due to take place in June, in an effort to prioritise the health of our supporters and the wider community. We have put measures in place for the team to all work remotely, closing the office to reduce socialising. Meetings that we had arranged in locations all over the North-East are being rearranged via skype calls or team hangouts, to ensure that we can maintain the advice of social distancing where possible.
It is also with regret we are having to temporarily postpone future equipment assessment meetings, in line with current Government guidance. This means that any applications submitted after the February 28th deadline are now on hold. Having to make this decision was so very difficult for us, but with no way to generate our usual income or host our fundraising events, our hands are so frustratingly tied. We want to be able to support as many children as possible, and we can only do that with your help.
If you are able to help children, right her in the North-East that so desperately need additional equipment to live safely and comfortably, please donate today. You can do so on our website or by texting SUNSHINE3 to 70085 to make a one-off donation of £3 via your phone bill.
Please, help us help them.
