A trip to the Quayside gets us excited for some future events

Updated: Mar 26

Hi Sunshine News Readers,

What a busy week it’s been here at Sunshine HQ! Our highly anticipated Sunflower Ball is now just ONE week away, which means it’s all hands on deck as we finalise everything and make sure the evening is going to be perfect.

We’ll be paying some exciting visits over the next few days in the run up to ball and we can’t wait to be able to share more about the final prep next week, and a full rundown of the night the week after. In between all things ball, however, myself and our events and fundraising co-ordinator, Amanda, found time to squeeze in a visit to Newcastle Quayside to plan out and visualise a certain route for an upcoming event… any guesses what it could be for?

Here’s a clue: it’s returning for its 21st year… Keep your eyes peeled as we will be announcing all very soon!

While we were down by the Quayside, we were reminded of some of the incredible memories our charity has had there, and it made us very excited for one event in particular: The Junior and Mini Great North Run. With our main GNR charity spaces completely sold out already, we’re able to put more emphasis on the kids event the day before the main run.

On Saturday, September 7, we are hoping to spread some sunshine with lots of our junior supporters who will be racing for Team Mini Sunshine! After a year’s hiatus, we will be bringing our VIP Sunshine Zone back to the Quayside to cheer on our little racers – whether they are taking part in the Mini, Junior, Wheelchair or Mini 50 wave, we’ll be there all day to be the loudest cheerleaders, and to provide some fantastic entertainment.

All members of Team Mini Sunshine will receive their own Sunshine Fund t-shirt as well as a certificate recognising their achievement, and they will have full access to our VIP Zone on the day of the race, for as little or as long as they like. The Junior and Mini GNR has always been one of our most favourite events and we can’t describe the pride we feel seeing so many of our mini racers representing our small charity.

We would love parents to support our comeback by signing their child up, and encouraging them to race for The Sunshine Fund, so that we can continue to raise awareness about our cause, and continue to support local babies, children and young adults living with disabilities, additional needs and terminal illness in the North East region.

Whether they do it for themselves as a personal challenge, for a sibling, a friend, or to represent the thousands of local kids with complex needs in our region, we urge them to do it for Team Sunshine! You can register your child’s place here.

Once you have registered, please contact Amanda.Keddie@thesunshinefund.org to let us know they will be racing for us! We’ll just need their name, age/t-shirt size and what wave they’ll be participating in. Let’s spread some sunshine!

Our 2024 Great North Run campaign is proudly sponsored by our friends at True Potential for the sixth year running.
