New staff and exciting fundraisers

Hi Sunshine News readers,

What a week! We’ve been preparing for two events, plus welcomed a new team member this week!

We are delighted to introduce you all to Erin, our new Events Coordinator who will be leading on all our events and campaigns, plus bringing some exciting new changes to our current events calendar.

She is full of enthusiasm and upon meeting the rest of the team on Monday, we can tell she’s going to fit right in.

Erin said: "I am absolutely thrilled to be joining Team Sunshine! I have joined such a wonderful team who are making a real difference to the lives of so many children across the North East!

"It’s been a full-on first week as we are making final preparations for our Noche Del Sol Ball on Friday, but I can’t wait to meet all our wonderful supporters and some of our Sunshine Families too!

"There are so many exciting things ahead and I’m so excited to be a part of them!"

She’s had a baptism of fire this week and has been thrown in at the deep end as it’s Noche del Sol ball day with our partners St James’ Square Law Firm!

Ball week is always packed with last minute preparations, the odd curveball and of course excitement, so she couldn’t have joined us in a better week!

It’s been 2 years since our last ball, The Glitterball in 2019, and so Noche del Sol has been much anticipated among our team and supporters.

As you read this, we’re likely knee deep in maracas, getting the room ready at the Grand Hotel Gosforth with their amazing team.

We also have some wonderful volunteers with us from Sage UK who are supporting with decorating the room and ensuring those finishing touches are just right.

We will later be joined by a second squad of volunteers, who will be helping us raise as much as we can for our children from our October equipment round, which has reached a whopping £70K.

We are incredibly grateful of all the support we’ve received from local businesses who have donated to our prizes on the night, the Grand Hotel for being sensational at tending to our every need and request as usual, plus our friends at The Bigger Picture Agency for capturing photos and memories of the event.

We know the pandemic has affected us all in different ways, but it’s truly humbled us to see how many people have pulled together to support local and give back to the charity.

It also goes without saying, we couldn’t have done it without our friends and partners St James’ Square Law Firm.

Not only do we have the ball tonight, but we also have our Spooktacular Stayover at Chillingham Castle on Sunday with Stagecoach!

A few of the drivers made the mistake of watching E4’s Celebrity Coach Trip this week, which if you didn’t watch it, was terrifying.

They have their torches and sleeping bags at the ready, but we expect they won’t be getting a lot of sleep as North East spiritualist and medium Suzanne Gill will be joining them and has some chilling plans to investigate the maze, dungeon, and chapel with our team.

We’re sure to have a story or two to share with you next week…

You can sponsor the drivers by clicking here.

That’s all for this week, be prepared for our Christmas news next week!

Wishing you all a safe but fun Bonfire Night.
