It’s Volunteers’ Week! Here’s How You Can Support Us

Hi Sunshine News readers, It’s Volunteers’ Week!

Volunteers’ Week takes place from the 1st – 7th June and it’s an annual celebration of the wonderful people who donate their time and resources to charities and organisations, and the impact their work makes to our communities. Here at The Sunshine Fund, we’re lucky to have a whole host of volunteers who help us make our events the success that they are, and we’d like to take this opportunity to thank them!

Whilst we have some incredible volunteers, our ethos is always the more the merrier! And we’ll always looking to welcome new people to help us out and support our work.

Our website has a simple form that you can fill out to be added to our volunteers mailing list – if you’d like to hear about our volunteering opportunities, please visit www.thesunshinefund.org/volunteer.

How can you help?

From our annual Sunshine Run where you can marshal the course, hand out water and medals and ensure our runners have a seamless experience, to working behind-the-scenes of our fancy evening events such as our charity ball or Question of Sport. Help set up the rooms and hand out prizes and help make our raffles, auction and games run smoothly.

You can also help out at weekend events by donating a couple of hours of your time bucket collecting, or you can visit our office and dedicate your time and skills at Sunshine HQ, if you’d rather support us without attending the events. We also have a number of corporate volunteering opportunities if you’d like to gather a team of employees/colleagues to help with charity work.

You can get in touch with our Charity Director, Siobhan, to discuss opportunities. Simply email siobhan.sargeant@thesunshinefund.org to find out more.

What are the benefits of being a Sunshine Volunteer?

Besides from knowing you’ve dedicated your own time to a worthy cause, and supported an event that will help fund life-improving equipment to disabled children in the North East, you also have the opportunity to attend some of our exclusive events.

This year, you could be part of history by volunteering at our 20th anniversary Sunshine Run (Wednesday 14th June), or enjoy a night of glitz and glamour at our Bridgertoon Ball (Friday 29th September), or our Question of Sport dinner and quiz (Thursday 16th November) – experience the fun of our black tie events whilst also helping out and supporting our cause.

One of our many loyal volunteers is Rachna Bhalla, who has been volunteering with us for over 7 years! When Rachna isn’t working at the NHS Business Services Authority, she donates her time to many charities including ours, and has helped out and many of our events. She says, "I love it because it strengthens and gives back to our community. I also learn a lot and meet new people along the way!".

DONATING TIME: Rachna and the Scobies at the Mamma Mia Ball

Other long-term Sunshine Volunteers include Lauren Scobie (Miss Newcastle Galaxy 23/24) and her mum, Kerry Scobie. This mother-and-daughter duo have not only raised donations for us through their own fundraising activities, but they’ve also continuously volunteered at our events and their hard work never goes unnoticed.

If this has inspired you to offer a helping hand, don’t forget to visit www.thesunshinefund.org/volunteer.

Thank you!
