Help team boost our running total

Hi Sunshine News readers,

This week we welcomed our new intern to the team who is joining us for 10 weeks from Newcastle University. She will mainly be working across our social media platforms and also giving our Instagram page a much needed re-fresh. Welcome to the team Abigail, we’re trilled to have you with us for the Summer! If you’d like to follow us on Instagram, check out @sunshinefund.

Our Charity Director Siobhan and our Families Coordinator Rachel completed their Disability Access Training this week with Difference North East, which will allow us to make changes to our application process to make our website and forms more accessible and inclusive of all additional needs. This is something we’re so proud about as it enables more people to access our services in the North East.

The big announcement this week however was the changes to the Great North Run route for Sunday 12th September. It might not be the familiar route we all know, but as a charity who relies on runners taking part and fundraising for us every year, we’re thrilled that the event is able to go ahead, with the safety of runners as a priority. If you have a guaranteed place then why not run for Team Sunshine, contact Ashleigh.allen@reachplc.com to take part.

Alongside this news, there was also an announcement that the Mini and Junior GNR will definitely be going ahead as planned on Saturday 11th September down on the Quayside. We won’t lie, we cried at this news as it’s the big one we’ve all been waiting for, with our Team Sunshine GNR partners True Potential! The event was such a huge miss for our team, families and supporters last year and its fabulous news that our children will have something to look forward to after challenging stretches of isolation, limited services, therapies and interaction this last 16 months.

Great Run announced that a priority entry window would open on Wednesday 14th July for all 2020 registered participants for two weeks only. If you secured a place in 2020, please check your emails and re-register your child for the 2021 event ASAP. We would love to celebrate this year with our biggest team ever and so if you’re lucky enough to nab a space, please contact Ashleigh.allen@reachplc.com to let us know you’d like to run for Team Mini Sunshine! We always have a spot down on the Quayside to welcome our mini supporters and cheer them on the day (plus they get lots of treats!) We can’t wait to see floods of yellow t-shirts again, running, walking and wheeling across the finish line, the true highlight of our year.

We are still awaiting news on when Mini and Junior GNR entries will open to the public but please follow us on Facebook (@sunshinefund) for the most up to date Team Sunshine GNR news.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Lauren
