Our Mamma Mia ball success

Hi Sunshine News Readers,

You will remember that this time last week we were excitedly preparing for our annual ball and let me tell you, what a fabulous night it was. It goes without saying that we have so many thank you messages to send but before I do that, I am delighted to announce that the I Have a Dream, The Mamma Mia Ball raised over a whopping £35,000!

With the roaring success of our 2021 ball, Noche del Sol, we still can’t quite believe that we’ve had another sensational ball event following what has been difficult time for us all. The events success and amount raised really is testament to our loyal supporters and guests on the night given that we’re in such challenging financial times.

I am always proud of the work and impact of our charity, but it’s times like this when it really sinks in how amazing our team and supporters are.

Our first thanks must go to our loyal friends at St James’ Square Law Firm, this is the second ball we have partnered with them to host and it did not disappoint. Thank you to Paul, Mark and the wider team for your hard work in recent months and for ensuring the event was a success.

You know what your contribution means to us and our families, as a small charity we simply could not have hosted such a spectacular evening without you.

As a charity, our focus is on providing specialist equipment to children who need it here in our region, so all of our events are planned with a tight budget in mind. Our ball would not have been possible without the generosity of so many who have donated their time, services, products and skills.

Thank you to Ange, Jeanette and the team at The Bigger Picture for being our paps for the evening and producing our much-anticipated annual ball video to showcase how the charity supports children in our region. As always, you managed to capture our story with Dryden School and the Weymes family so beautifully and we must also thank the family for their time and ongoing support.

Thanks also to the pupils and teachers at Dryden School in Gateshead, who created two stunning pieces of artwork that collectively raised £4,000 in our auction! Move over Van Gogh! We look forward to celebrating with you all over a cuppa and some cake soon!

A very special message of thanks must go to our wonderful friends Helen and her team at Katherines Florists who have been staunch supporters of The Chronicle Sunshine Fund for many years. Helen and her team donate 150 beautifully wrapped, individual roses for us to sell to guests on the night as a part of the events fundraising.

We know how much time and effort goes into ensuring we have the most beautiful blooms Newcastle has to offer and our ball just wouldn’t be the same without our Katherine’s Roses, thank you. The lovely folk who were singing “who will buy my sweet red roses….” (Yes, another musical entirely I know, I just couldn’t resist!), were our team of volunteers.

Ladies, you did an amazing job, and we hope you know that we see you as a part of our extended Sunshine family, we couldn’t do it without you.

And finally, thank you to all of the amazing organisations who donated to support our raffle and auction including The Apartment Group, One Collection Group, The Theatre Royal, Rio Steakhouse, the County Hotel, Gino D’Campo Newcastle, the team at Mama Mia West End, Hannah and her team at The Pretty picture company and finally those cheeky chappies, our Patrons Ant and Dec for donating a meet and greet prize!

We couldn’t sign off from this weeks column without wishing Team Mini Sunshine the best of luck as they finally get their time to shine at the Junior, Mini, Mini 50 and Wheelchair GNR. We are looking forward to cheering you all on from our VIP Family zone on the Quayside tomorrow, lets hope the sun is shining for you all. We couldn’t be prouder of you.
