Autumn has ‘officially’ arrived and we couldn’t be happier! Team Sunshine are lovers of cosy jumpers and a pumpkin spice latte or two, plus it means we’re well on our way to Christmas!

Last week we celebrated our incredible Great North Run weekend successes but this week has given even more reason to celebrate as our Team Sunshine sponsors True Potential announced that their GNR team fundraising total had reached a whopping £15,000! We couldn’t believe our ears when we heard and this donation couldn’t have come at a better time as our Autumn equipment round is due in October. As funds are still coming through from the rest of our runners, we hope to announce our final GNR total very soon but we know that it’s going to be a whopper after True Potential shared this amazing news.

If you are the parent or carer of a child with a disability, additional need or terminal illness, you still have time to apply for equipment in our October round. We also support schools and organisations too so if you know someone who might benefit from applying, please direct them to our website where you can download an application form, plus access online video tutorials to support with the application process. Please also bear in mind that; you can apply to us again even if we’ve already supported your child providing it was over 12 months ago, we are not means tested and so you can apply to us regardless of your household income, you can apply for children from birth right up until their 19th birthday, and finally, you can apply for multiple children per household should they need separate equipment to meet their individual needs.

We often get asked what type of equipment we fund and to be honest it’s so hard for us to give a definite answer as every round we see something new including amazing new models and technologies. To give you an idea of what we can fund, our equipment generally falls into 4 equipment categories; living aids, sensory & play, mobility and IT & communication. Ultimately, the equipment we fund, specialist or not, suits the care, comfort, safety or learning needs of every individual child and enhances their everyday lives. Please ensure that all applications and supporting letters are with us by Monday 4th October. Our team will get in contact with you should we need any additional information to support your application before our equipment meeting on Tuesday 12th October.
