Question of Sport roundup and Christmas
Hi Sunshine News readers,
December is finally here, and we are sooooo excited for our festive fundraising and events to get underway.
Before we can start to share everything we have planned, we need to start with telling you all about Question of Sport…Our long-awaited annual sporting quiz and dinner, came back with a bang last Thursday hosted in partnership with Lowes Financial Management. What a return!
We are thrilled to announce that this year’s event raised a staggering £32,125 which will go a huge way in supporting the charity in our mission to help as many North East children as possible the Christmas. Of course, we need to give the biggest thanks to Adele and the team at Lowes for sponsoring the event, we couldn’t have done it without you all.
We also need to thank our fabulous friends and hosts at The Grand Hotel, Gosforth Park, including Jane for looking after us so well. Plus, thanks to the team at Big Purple Productions who created our 2022 quiz that challenged even the biggest sporting buffs in the room.
Thanks also to all the North East organisations and businesses who supported the event by donating a prize for our raffle or auction including True Potential, NUFC Foundation, Lyn Spencer at White Hot Communications, Stephen Miller, Junkyard Golf, The Hustle, Marco Polo, The Great British Cupcakery, Point Blank Newcastle, Chillingham Castle and ITV. One final whopping big thanks to our volunteers from Sage who supported with the event set-up and our volunteers on the night too, you guys are an absolute dream, and you know how much we treasure your time.
And with Question of Sport now over, it’s onto the next big thing which is CHRISTMAS! Christmas Jumper Day is fast approaching, next Friday to be exact, and we already have lots of local organisations signed up to take part. Remember, you can take part no matter the size of your team or if you work from home.
Quite literally anything goes as we’re of course raising funds to support the children waiting for equipment from our latest round. If you’d like our official poster to circulate to friends and colleagues, please drop me a line and I’ll send across everything you need to know Siobhan.firstname.lastname@example.org.
If you’re taking part at home, please just text SUNSHINE 2 to 70085 to make your £2 donation or whatever you can afford. We can’t wait to see those jumpers so please remember to tag us on social too (@sunshinefund).
We’re also super excited for the return of our free Santa’s Grotto Bus with Stagecoach which will be situated pride of place on Northumberland Street from Monday, December 12, to Sunday, December 18. We’ll then be hitting the road and visiting Tesco Kingston Park on Wednesday 21, and Morrisons Tynemouth on Thursday 22.
Our Santa’s Grotto Bus has been loved by many across the North East for years and we hope to reach even more families this Christmas. As always, our grotto is fully accessible and inclusive, meaning children with disabilities and additional needs can experience a visit to Santa in a way that is best for them.
This could be something as simple as no strict time slots, like many ticketed events regulate, or it could be that we have elves who can sign simple Makaton so that every child gets that magical experience. Our team will be learning even more Makaton signs next week in the hope that little ones who use signing to communicate, might be able to speak to Santa for the first time ever!
We are still in need of volunteers to support us with our Santa bus across the festive period so if you can lend a hand between Thursday, December 15 and Sunday, December 18 we would be eternally grateful. Please contact our in-house Mrs Claus, Rachel, if you’d like to take part - Rachel.email@example.com.
Remember, follow us on Facebook and Instagram for Santa Bus updates and official times. I’m going to spend my weekend digging out my 31 Christmas jumpers, one for every day of the festive season, much to my family’s annoyance!
