Happy Pancake week Sunshine news readers! For Team Sunshine, one day celebrating the humble pancake wasn't enough, so we've managed to make a week of it! Whether you are a Lauren and go for posh toppings and locally sourced vegan produce, or a Rebecca who this week experimented with Marmite….. We have enjoyed seeing all your pancake pics, thanks to our families for sharing, your treats looked delicious! We hope you have all enjoyed this great British tradition.
Now, if like us you are looking to burn off some of those pancake calories look no further, we've got just the thing! Registrations for the John West Great North Swim are now open!
Fancy a dip?
The iconic John West Great North Swim is back for 2021! Over the weekend of 11th to the 13th June, the beautiful Lake Windermere will host a series of family friendly, beginners swims and challenge events. There are a number of packages available and there are even junior events to get your little swimmers involved (All junior swimmers must be accompanied by an adult of course, please see the Great Swim website for full details www.greatswim.org/great-north-swim ).
Fancy making a bigger splash? The different levels of events cater for all levels of abilities. Take on the 5K challenge against the clock and swim the total distance within a 2 hour time frame. The registration fee is just £59 for this sought after challenge and places are going quick. There are also 1/2 mile, 1 mile, 2 mile and 10k events taking place across the weekend which vary in price for registration but all come in at below £89. This means that whoever signs up can choose which challenge they would like to do based on ability or how brave you are feeling! And here’s the best bit, Lake Windermere is around a 2 hour drive away so your challenge can be completed in a day meaning no overnight stays or annual leave are required.
Places are limited and all events will abide by Covid restrictions and guidelines meaning numbers will be smaller than in previous years. Interested swimmers, should take the plunge and sign up now via the Great Swim website to avoid missing out! There is no set sponsorship for completing any of the Great North Swim Challenges for The Chronicle Sunshine Fund but we ask that you consider raising funds for us to help us support more children and young adults with disabilities and terminal illness in the North East. Every penny counts right now and even small amounts of fundraising are greatly appreciated. Dive in and help us change local lives!
