Congratulations to the Sunshine Trekkers

Hi Sunshine News readers,

We’ve had a busy week here at Sunshine HQ. Last Friday saw our Sunshine Trekkers head to the Lake District to take on the Lakes 3000s challenge where they were met with glorious weather and breath-taking views.

The team spirit and camaraderie certainly drove the group through the difficult hike and the post-trek pint was not only much needed but also well deserved. Our amazing trekkers walked for over 11 hours and raised a phenomenal amount of over £10,000!

This exceeded the target and will go a long way in helping us fund specialist and adapted equipment which will improve and enrich the daily lives of our children living with disabilities, additional needs and terminal illnesses in the North East. We want to say a huge thank you and massive congratulations to Team Sunshine for joining us for the 2023 Trek and putting in such hard work both on the day and with fundraising.

TARGET SMASHED: "Our amazing trekkers walked for over 11 hours and raised a phenomenal amount of over £10,000!"

From one challenge to another… we would also like to shout out Recite Me, who have taken on a walking challenge this week to raise funds for us. They’ll be walking 1 million steps on Global Accessibility Awareness Day, which they say is a key date in their calendar “to get everyone talking, thinking, and learning about the importance of accessibility and inclusion”.

Recite Me is a local organisation based in Gateshead who provide web accessibility software; their toolbar can be found on our own website which means that the Sunshine Fund site is accessible for all. We’re so grateful for their support and wish them luck on the challenge.

Last week our Charity Director, Siobhan, and our Family Co-ordinator, Bev, paid a visit to the Stagecoach Slatyford depot to thank them for their continued support over the years and to show them what we’ve got planned later in the year. Stagecoach are sponsoring our 20th anniversary Sunshine Run on June 14 for the third year running and we’re thrilled to have them on board(!) again.

Registrations for our 5K charity run close at the end of this month so if you’d like to join us you best be quick! To register, please visit https://racebest.com/races/usckw.

THANK YOU: Charity Director, Siobhan, and our Family Co-ordinator, Bev, paid a visit to the Stagecoach Slatyford depot

Thank you for reading!
