Taking on the Yorkshire 3 Peaks challenge in 2022

Hi Sunshine News Readers,

It’s Erin here, taking over my first column of the year and I’m excited to share with you our 2022 trek.

Many of us are probably itching to get a holiday booked for this year or take on a new challenge or hobby, so this might just be what you’ve been searching for.

We took a break from trekking in 2020 and 2021 as lets face it, we didn't think a hike along the Quayside in a group of six would quite cut it for the thrill seekers among us, and so we're delighted to be launching our 2022 trekking challenge.

In 2019, our trekkers took on the National 3 Peaks Challenge and with overwhelmingly positive feedback, I’m delighted to announce that this year we’re taking on the Yorkshire 3 Peaks Challenge!

The Yorkshire 3 Peaks Challenge will take us over North Yorkshire’s highest peaks, Whernside (736 m or 2,415 ft), Ingleborough (723 m or 2,372 ft) and Pen-y-ghent (694 m or 2,277 ft) guided by our trusted trek providers, Adventure Northumberland.

Totalling approximately 25 miles and taking 12 hours, this trek is perfect for not only avid and seasoned hikers, but the perfect opportunity for anyone new to hiking, to take on a personal challenge this year and fall in love with something new.

This is a fabulous opportunity, but don’t take our word for it, Tom Justice, a Solicitor at Muckle LLP, took part in our 2019 National 3 Peaks Challenge and here’s what he had to say about the experience:

"You wouldn’t think standing in a -20 windchill on Ben Nevis, climbing Scafell Pike in the dark or summitting Snowdon in the drizzle (after about two hours sleep in a van) would be enjoyable, but completing the Three Peaks with the Sunshine Fund in 2019 was an amazing experience and an adventure I’ll never forget (for all the right reasons).

"None of our team had done anything like this before, but the trip was so well planned and the Sunshine Fund gave lots of great advice and support which made our fundraising really easy.

"It’s testament to the Sunshine Fund that we spent most of the Trek laughing and smiling! The fact that we were raising money for such a great cause made it even better - I couldn’t recommend the experience or the charity enough."

The cherry on top, some may say, is taking part to support The Chronicle Sunshine Fund as your fundraising will enable us to help local babies, children and young adults living with disabilities, additional needs and terminal illnesses, by funding life-changing specialist equipment they desperately need.

We ask that each trekker aims to raise £300 to take part which although might sound daunting at first, we know from experience, that trekkers often surpass their target once they get going.

Every trekker will benefit from personal, one-to-one support with both training and fundraising tips from our team, plus we will have numerous fundraising and collection opportunities from February onwards for those who need a fundraising boost.

Having never done a trek before myself, I’m so excited to launch this challenge as I will be joining our trekkers on the challenge.

So will you be joining me on Friday 20 May to take on the Yorkshire 3 Peaks Challenge?
